KCNQ2 Family & Research Summit 2027
Questions & Answers
Everything families, clinicians, and partners ask most about the Summit.
About the Summit
Who can come?
Everyone who is part of the KCNQ2 community: parents, caregivers, grandparents, siblings, KCNQ2 Cuties (who are free to attend), extended family, clinicians, researchers, therapists, and industry partners. If KCNQ2 touches your life, there’s a place for you here.
Is it fun, or is it all lectures?
Both. Daytime sessions share the latest research and practical topics in plain language, and every evening is a celebration: a welcome reception, a community dinner, and the Celebration of Champions with dinner, music, and dancing.
Will there be time to connect with other families?
Yes. Connection is the heart of the summit. There’s dedicated time for families to meet and share, plus meals, evening events, and plenty of unstructured time.
Do I have to attend every day?
No. Come for what works for your family, step out when you need to, and rest when you need to.
Registration & cost
How much does it cost?
Pricing is listed on the Registration page. Registration opens January 19, 2027.
What’s included in registration?
Wednesday: Welcome reception. Thursday and Friday: all sessions; breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Not included: Hotel and travel. Saturday: Walking tour
What if I can’t afford to come?
Please don’t let cost keep you home. We offer a limited number of family scholarships to help with registration and travel. Travel Scholarship.
Kids & families
Is there a program for siblings?
Yes. The Sibling Summit gives brothers and sisters with a program built for them. Ages 6-12.
Is there childcare for our KCNQ2 loved ones?
We don’t offer care for KCNQ2 loved ones, and they’re welcome everywhere: in sessions, at meals, and at every evening event. Many families bring an extra caregiver, nurse, or aide, and the sensory room is open throughout the summit whenever your loved one needs a quieter space.
Can we bring our loved one’s nurse, aide, or an extra caregiver?
Yes. Registration details for nurses, aides, and extra caregivers will be listed on the registration site.
Are strollers, wheelchairs, and adaptive equipment welcome?
Absolutely. The whole Mall is step-free, and wheelchairs, powered carts, and strollers are available to rent on site. See Accessibility & Sensory Support.
Food, health & safety
What will we eat?
The three evening events include meals. The Mall has dozens of restaurants for every taste and diet, most just steps from the sessions.
Is there a quiet space?
Yes. A sensory room is open throughout the summit for anyone who needs a calmer moment.
What if there’s a medical emergency?
We recommend bringing your loved one’s seizure action plan and medications. M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital 12 minutes from the Mall is the closest Emergency Room
Travel & hotel
Where should we stay?
Our discounted Summit hotel block is $189/ night + tax = $220/night. You will receive the hotel booking link in your registeration confirmation email.
Are accessible hotel rooms available?
We recommend booking early and requesting accessible features when you reserve.
How do we get there from the airport?
MSP airport is just a few miles away. The light rail runs from the terminals to the Mall in about twelve minutes on fully accessible trains, and many hotels offer free shuttles.
Sessions & schedule
Where can I see the full schedule?
A working outline is on The Program. The detailed schedule will be posted on Sched closer to the summit, where you can build your own agenda.
What’s the Saturday walking tour?
An optional guided walk through Minneapolis on Saturday, June 26. There’s no formal programming that day, so it’s yours to explore however you like.
